Will the UK go into recession?

Will the UK go into another recession? That is the question most people are asking me; especially my clients in China and EU. Well the answer to that question is …….if I knew the answer to that, well I would be using my predictive skills to better use that’s for sure. Seriously though, who knows if the UK will go into recession. And I think that is the key point here “who knows”. If you read one report then yes we are heading for a recession, another report will tell you that growth will be slow, yet another that the economy will bounce back quicker than expected and so on. Add political agendas into the mix and it gets pretty confusing. The fact is no one can predict with any degree of certainty what will happen a minute from now let alone how the highly complex mix of economies, financial markets and so on will play out. So to my point.. We can only deal with what is in front of us at that moment. For some of you the current situation is quite bleak whilst for others things might be optimistic. Either way you can only deal with the situation in front of you. Worrying about things is not the answer. Taking action and making decisions is. Be mindful of current conditions yes but look for ways to improve your immediate situation.

Here are my reasons why we will or will not go into recession;

The pound is quite weak at the and that makes our products cheaper which helps exports.  Also unemployment rises have been smaller than forecast. Additionally the stock market is strong at the moment which always boosts confidence in the markets. Conversely the Government has decided on severe public spending cuts that could setback demand.

House prices are over-valued.

And finally many governments and consumers have built up huge debts that could take many years to clear.

Either way whatever happens like you I'm sure, I’ve got my bills to pay so I better get on with it!!
